The Challenge
Context: The bridge between the bedroom and the pro studio.
The Digi 003 was a FireWire control surface with motorized faders.
- Motorized Faders: We needed 8 touch-sensitive motorized faders that could snap to position instantly without burning out or fighting the user.
- Jog Wheel: The feel of the jog wheel had to be heavy and smooth, mimicking the ballistics of an analog tape machine reel.
Engineering Approach
- VFD Display: We used a custom 2-line VFD (Vacuum Fluorescent Display) for its high brightness and wide viewing angle, critical for dark studios.
- Chassis: The “Saddle” capability allowed the unit to sit flat or pitch up, requiring a complex dual-injection molded foot architecture.
